About the book

The Trees: Learning Tree Knowledge with Uncle Kuu is a children's picture book written by Victor Steffensen and illustrated by Sandra Steffensen. It is an insightful book about caring for, protecting and respecting the "Elders of Country"trees.

Throughout the book there are clear themes and messages of reciprocity, sustainability and respect. The reader is taken on a journey with Uncle Kuu, learning about trees in different contexts, the gifts that trees provide and the consequences of not caring for trees and Country.

Aboriginal People have looked after them for thousands of years. In return, trees have looked after people.

Teacher notes

I had the opportunity to write the official Teacher Notes for the book publisher, Hardie Grant Publishing. In the Teacher Notes, I provide further information about the themes and suggest discussion questions and learning activities to support teachers and students in exploring this book respectfully.

The front cover of the book 'The Trees' with the teacher notes for the book shown on both a laptop and tablet device.

These Teacher Notes are free to download and you can access them here:
